One of the major goals of NEWN is to help new writers understand the correct submission process, learn to handle critiques, and possibly be published. For those reasons, we offer YOUNG AUTHORS. This is an opportunity for WRITERS AGE 14-19 YEARS OLD to submit poetry up to 32 lines, short stories up to 2,000 words, or personal essays up to 1,000 words.
Along with following regular submissions guidelines, (for example material must be typed, double-spaced and a SASE must be enclosed), authors must include age and a signed note from a parent/guardian or teacher stating that the work is his or her original material.
This is not a contest, but a place for young writers to submit their work and receive constructive feedback. The submission period for this program is ONLY April 1st - June 30th each year. All Young Author submissions will be
reviewed and briefly critiqued by Judy L. Adourian. Payment upon acceptance will be $5 plus one complimentary copy of the issue in which the piece appears.
Send all Young Author submissions, with a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) to:
